The United Hospital Fund's mission is to shape positive change in health care for the people of New York. We advance policies and support programs that promote high quality, patient-centered health care services that are accessible to all. We undertake research and policy analysis to improve the financing and delivery of care in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and other care settings. We raise funds and give grants to examine emerging issues and stimulate innovative programs. And we work collaboratively with civic, professional, and volunteer leaders to identify and realize opportunities for change. The New Leadership Group was established by the United Hospital Fund to bring together a dynamic cross-section of community-minded professionals with an interest in health care in New York City. Each year the Group sponsors the Healthy Kids benefit to bring together young professionals, their friends and colleagues, and corporate underwriters to help improve health care for New York's most vulnerable children. This upbeat cocktail party is held at the corporate offices of Steelcase overlooking Central Park and Columbus Circle, an includes an online auction, silent auction, and raffle with fabulous prizes. Proceeds from the benefit support innovative model programs that make a real difference to children and their families and can lead to better health and health care. Recent grants have supported programs to link disabled children with needed services, enroll uninsured children in Medicaid and Child Health Plus, ensure better preventive care for children with asthma and diabetes, and promote good nutrition and exercise for children at risk for obesity. Jim Watkins, anchor of the PIX News at Ten is the recipient of the United Hospital Fund's 2009 Humanitarian Award, which will be presented at the benefit on June 23.
